Content Management System - what’s that then?

A Content Management System allows the website owner to add, update or delete pages on their website without the need for any technical knowledge. Content is handled using a word processor-style interface. You can add text and images, and add formating, links and alt or title tags if you so desire (they are a good idea for accessibility and search engine optimisation). Images, audio and video can be uploaded, resized and re-encoded if needed.

Why use a Content Management System?

A Content Management System give you control over what’s on your website, when it gets updated and how often. There’s no need to pay your web developer and you don’t have to wait until it’s convenient for your web designer to slot in your updates.

Returning visitors

It’s a statistically proven fact that more people return to your website if it’s regularly updated. And that makes perfect sense; why would they come back if they’ve seen it all before? A Content Management System allows you to make updates every day, every hour or every minute if that’s what you want.

Be always up to date

The Content Management System can be written to include a ‘last updated’ time-stamp. This can be featured on your website to demonstrate it is bang up to date. This is great for reassuring you’re visitors that you’re still in business, still successful and still interested in your own website. There’s nothing worse that a website that says it was last updated three years ago.

Google love

Search engines love content managed websites too. The more often your website is updated, the more often Google and co. will come back to rate your website. Leave your website untouched for years and they won’t bother, they’ll think you’ve lost interest and so will they. Your rankings will start to slide and so will your quality visitors. So a Content Management System is a vital part of your online marketing strategy.

Content Management Systems and The Marvellous Media Company

Content Management Systems are a standard part of our briefing process. When we come to talk to you about your website design we’ll always discuss whether you want a Content Management System. This is because we understand their importance in the internet marketing toolbox, and we want your website to be successful.

Bespoke Content Management Systems

We don’t use off-the-shelf Content Management Systems because all too often they are over-complicated for most website designs and, in turn, website owners. We believe in understanding your business, what makes you different, your customers and how you interact with them. That allows us to make suggestions about how your website is designed, how the various elements interact and in turn how your Content Management System should work. We’ll then design it to be as simple as possible to use so you get the ability to update your own website without having to learn anything about web design.
