Web Design for Business
When it comes to web design for business, we’ve worked for clients big and small; from huge, blue chip multinationals right down to sole traders whose only income is from their website. Our secret of success is to treat them all the same - as people.
Whatever your business, whatever your turnover and whatever your market you’ll more than likely want the same thing; more quality customers. Whether you’re trying to sell online or entice an audience to an event the same techniques will work, it’s just a matter of how you apply them to your web design.
Web Design for Public Sector
When it comes to web design for the public sector we’ve worked for organisations such as the NHS, UKAEA and local authorities. We use our web design skills to provoke the Most Desired Response from the target audience, whether it’s medical professionals, businesses or even school children.
Our Web Design Formula
First off, it’s no good having the best web design in the cosmos if no one gets to see it. The web design process starts by considering how people react before they see your website. What will they type into Google to find you? Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is the process of determining what your potential customers will type into Google by doing some keyword research. Once your keywords have been established, they need to be woven into your web design in strategic places. Depending on the competition, this should give you a pretty good ranking. Ideally you need to be in the top half of page one to get a significant increase in traffic.
Mini Google Advert
Then we need to consider your Meta Description tag - arguably more important than the web design itself. This is the text that appears under the link to your website on the search result. View this as a miniature advert to compel your punters to click your link. Ideally your primary keyphrase should be at the beginning. Research on web users shows that they only really look at the first two or three words properly and then scan the rest. Get this right and your visitors will arrive in droves, and they’ll be looking for your product or services. Get it wrong and they won’t come at all or they’ll be looking for the wrong thing.
Good First Impression
The next step in the web design process is what is normally understood by the term web design. It’s how your website looks, the first impression. But hold on a minute, because your visitors already have a preconception - some have even termed it precognition - of what your web design will look like. A little research is required to establish what this is, but most of it’s common sense. Think about what your punters are looking for; usually the solution to a problem. So ensure your web design heavily features the solution and/or the problem. Your visitors need to be reassured that they’ve come to the website, and that they can trust it. Research has shown that if you blow this stage you’re very unlikely to turn that potential customer around.
Don’t be objectionable
Your web design then needs to overcome any objections. This is usually done with some good copy including testimonials, guarantees, case studies and professional awards and accolades, but video is becoming increasingly effective in this area.
Most Desired Response
One of the most vital components missing from many web designs is what we call ‘Most Desired Response’. This is the action you want your visitors to take once they have made the decision to buy. After all, if you don’t know, how will they? Whether you want them to buy online or just call you, make the path to sale as easy as possible.
Once it’s all up and running, you need some good website analytics to assess the performance of your web design. This will tell you what’s working and what isn’t.
Or alternatively, you could call The Marvellous Media Company and get them to do it all for you.
