Safe Routes to School

Every year thousands of school children across Surrey spend 4 weeks finding greener ways of travelling to school. This website allows them to record their efforts.
The Golden Boot Challenge data has historically been very labour–intensive to collate. The website The Marvellous Media Company built for us reduces man–hours to practically nothing. We can now spend more time and energy on promoting sustainable travel and getting more schools involved.Dave Sharpington, Surrey County Council
The Golden Boot Challenge takes place every year in hundreds of schools across Surrey. Children are encouraged to find more environmentally-friendly means of travelling to school, from walking and cycling to public transport or park and stride - driving only part way and walking the rest.
Freddie the Fox, the Golden Boot Challenge?s mascot, guides teachers through the registration process and then helps the children enter their data every morning of the challenge by simply clicking a button next to their mode of transport on the website. Many of the classes project the website onto their interactive whiteboards.
Classes within schools compete against each other to get the highest green change score, and Freddie the Fox celebrates their success with them, turning cartwheels or any class achieving 100% green travel.
Activity is not restricted to the main Golden Boot Challenge either. Schools can opt to run their own ?mini challenges? throughout the year, and even invite other schools to take part.
