Social networking 'boosts smartphone use in business'

Web 2.0

29 May 2009

The ever-growing popularity of social networking websites such as Twitter and Facebook has caused a surge in individuals using smartphones to work remotely, it has been claimed.

Michael W Thomas of enterprise social software solutions firm Neighborhood America commented that high-tech mobile phones offer the kind of functionality that businesses need to get ahead.

"Mobile devices also enable social media reach-outs such as Twitter to keep your prospects, channel partners and customers up-to-date in the social media channels," Mr Thomas commented.

In other news, companies looking for search engine optimisation (SEO) on their custom websites should take an "inside-out" approach, an expert has claimed.

According to web consultant Chris Lake, focusing on deep pages such as product listings rather than homepages can help bring more traffic to a website.

Taking website analytics into consideration, Mr Lake stated that most internet users will not be taken straight to a homepage when coming to a site through a search engine.
