British surfers are so desperate to stay connected to the internet they will browse professional websites in unusual places including on the toilet and between the sheets, according to a survey.

Almost a third of mobile users admitted in a Yahoo! survey that they searched the internet while on the toilet and a fifth of respondents said they surfed the web while at the dinner table.

Charles Sword, director of Yahoo Mobile in Europe, comments: "This study reveals just how addicted the great British public is to getting information wherever they are. Today's findings reinforce the importance of delivering mobile users with relevant information quickly and easily."

The poll also showed exactly what it is that makes people search the web in seemingly inappropriate situations, with one in ten men saying football results were their vice and lottery results coming top for women.

Results come after a Forrester blog conducted a survey which claimed mobile marketing is now a serious competitor to the web.
