Social networking site Facebook is to re-jig its profile pages in an attempt to make the Web 2.0 site more efficient.
The company said in the two years since it has allowed developers to create and introduce applications to the site over 50,000 different ones have gone live.
Facebook stated: "Ensuring that applications are trustworthy, meaningful and easy to find is paramount to developer success, user engagement and helping the ecosystem as whole to thrive. The need for a centralised and efficient directory [of applications] is growing."
It added that the company will be launching a new application directory to improve categories, update profile pages, increase visibility and enable streaming.
The company also offered advice for web designers and developers that included updating categories and subcategories, refreshing the new profile page and submitting any new applications quickly to pre-empt the re-design.
Facebook recently launched its publisher feature, which helps web designers make changes to their designs en masse.
