E-commerce copy 'can make or break big sales'

Website copy can have a significant effect on e-commerce sales, particularly when it comes to high-priced products.

This is according to copywriter Nick Usborne, who told Econsultancy that too many e-commerce sites offer only minimal information about each of their products, with many choosing to simply copy the descriptions given to them by manufacturers.

He noted that big purchases such as TVs and laptops tend to result in consumers taking more time to decide whether they want to buy from a particular website than if they were only looking for a CD.

"With the potential for increased conversions as a result of good copy, many sites would do well to pay more attention to this or to bring in a professional copywriter," Mr Usborne commented.

The run-up to Christmas last year saw web users' satisfaction with UK e-commerce sites rise by 1.5 per cent overall, according to a report from research provider ForeSee Results.ADNFCR-1093-ID-19105605-ADNFCR
