E-commerce sites specialising in fashion products are likely to see significant growth this year, according to a new forecast.
The report from research firm Mintel predicted growth of 23 per cent for UK fashion-related online sales by the end of this year.
Overall sales of womenswear and menswear will fall by 2.3 per cent and 1.2 per cent respectively, meanwhile.
In a statement, Mintel added: "Designer clothing (down three per cent) and the jeans market (down 2.4 per cent) will also suffer as consumers buy less or switch to replacement rather than desirable purchases."
According to the IMRG Capgemini e-Retail Sales Index, UK e-commerce sales rose by 13 per cent in the 12 months to February 2009, with the clothing, footwear and accessories sector seeing growth of 21 per cent.
The fastest growing category was electricals with 28 per cent, while other top gaining sectors included health and beauty and beer, wines and spirits, according to the figures.
