A new tool has been launched by HP with the aim of helping developers to iron out security-based kinks in their Flash content.
The HP SWFScan tool helps web design professionals to protect against the risk of hackers seeing sensitive data and guard against unintended application security vulnerabilities, the company stated.
It decompiles apps based on Flash and carries out static analysis on them to better understand their behaviours.
HP SWFScan can look for known security vulnerabilities such as cross-domain privilege escalation, unprotected confidential data, cross-site scripting and user input that does not get validated.
"Giving Flash developers the ability to check whether their code is secure, providing guidance on how to fix it and offering best secure-programming practices will help to protect businesses and their customers," said Joseph Feiman of Gartner.
Flash Player 10, the most recent version of the software, was released in October 2008. It is thought that more than nine in ten PCs globally have Flash installed.
