Mega drop-down menus 'good for usability'

Web Design

Web design executives should consider making greater use of mega drop-down menus to improve website usability, it has been suggested.

According to web design specialist Jakob Nielsen, such menus can be beneficial as they do not require users to scroll down a list of options and potentially forget the links they saw at the top of the menu.

Furthermore, mega drop-down menus can enhance usability through the addition of the relevant icons and pictures, he explained, defining these menus as those that utilise large, two-dimensional panels which are divided into groups of navigation options.

Mr Nielsen stated: "Mega drop-downs may improve the navigability of your site. By helping users find more, they'll help you sell more."

Graham Charlton of Econsultancy recently advised e-commerce web designers to consider using filtered navigation options to allow users to find specific products based on criteria such as price, colour, brand and size more easily.ADNFCR-1093-ID-19087372-ADNFCR
