Developers should take note of trends suggesting that mobile phones sales are bigger than those of PCs and design their websites accordingly, it has been suggested.
Kevin Lynch, chief technology officer at Adobe, told the recent ETech conference that it is best to focus web design projects on the mobile platform first because while PCs make up 25 per cent of consumer electronics sales, the rest is accounted for by mobiles and set-top boxes, TechRadar reports.
"Design for mobile first, designing from the bottom up," he advised, going on to suggest that developers bear the "cone of compatibility" in mind when prioritising their web design tasks.
A recent study by Bango indicated that a significant proportion of businesses do not have a mobile-friendly website in place.
This is in spite of the fact that over 20 per cent of global mobile internet traffic can be attributed to users living in the UK, the mobile analytics company stated.
