Web design usability testing 'should start on paper'

Businesses should begin testing the usability of their web design on pen and paper, it has been advised.
According to usability expert Jakob Nielsen, web design professionals should simply sit next to someone as they use their website and write down any notes on a piece of paper.
He told .net magazine that it is also a good idea to show people the initial website design on a piece of paper for early user feedback rather than actually building a prototype of the site on a computer.
Mr Nielsen explained: "Get the big issues right first – find out how users approach your features, your information architecture and your content strategy, all of which are more important than the exact colour scheme."
The expert advises businesses to conduct usability testing every week, as this can help to inform business decisions on a regular basis as well as build up internal web design knowledge.
