Free shipping 'could boost conversions'

Visitor Conversion

04 March 2009

E-commerce firms could enhance their conversion rates by offering free shipping when a certain amount of money is spent on their site, an expert has suggested.

Encouraging existing customers to spend more on every visit can be a cost-effective way of increasing conversions and offering free delivery is one main way of doing this, Michael Stearns of Practical eCommerce said.

Quantity-based discounts can also be useful in this regard, as can recommending other products on the website through cross-selling, he explained.

ForeSee Results recently released a report indicating that offering free shipping may make it more likely that consumers remember that particular e-commerce website and return to make repeat buys.

Mr Stearns also went on to note: "Without spending any more money you can likely increase conversions by honing your message, making sure your site follows best practices for web usability and determining how your site stacks up against your competition."ADNFCR-1093-ID-19057277-ADNFCR
