Interest in career development websites grows

Visitor Conversion

27 February 2009

Unique visitors to career development websites increased in January 2009, when compared to results one year earlier.

Research conducted by Nielsen Online found that the 41.5 million visitors to these professional websites in 2008 grew to 49.7 million last month.

People in the 65-years-old-and-older category made up the fastest-growing demographic as the number of members from this group who searched for such sites went up 41 per cent year-on-year.

Chuck Schilling, research director of agency and media at Nielsen Online, said that the unstable economy and burgeoning unemployment rate have been factors in the upturn in career development interest.

"The career development category grew 20 per cent year-over-year among at-work users, suggesting that many people are trying to build up their resumes and get a sense of the job market before the next potential layoff," he claimed.

The digital research company also revealed this week that the number of people accessing Facebook in the UK rose by 107 per cent to 17.6 million last year.
