Ruby 'has greatest take-up in emerging markets'

A greater proportion of web design and development professionals in emerging markets use Ruby than those in developed countries.
This is according to a new report from Evans Data, which revealed that one-fifth of developers in China, India and Latin America utilise the free-to-use Ruby in some of their development work.
The figure is in contrast with the ten per cent of western European and North American web development programming professionals who do so.
Scripting languages could be seen to be more popular in general within emerging markets than elsewhere, suggested Evans Data president and chief executive John Andrews.
"This is largely attributable to the fact that the developer population in the emerging markets is much younger and is more focused on web development than other types," he stated.
Evans Data released research in 2007 suggesting that the rise of scripting languages in North America had resulted in fewer developers targeting the Windows platform.
