The global online population has grown to more than one billion web users, according to a new report.
Figures from comScore showed that the milestone was reached in December, when 416.2 million of these internet users resided in the Asia Pacific region alone.
The next biggest online region was Europe, followed by North America, Latin America and the Middle East and Africa.
Some 180 million web users were recorded in China, coming head of the US, Japan, Germany and the UK.
"The second billion will be online before we know it and the third billion will arrive even faster than that until we have a truly global network of interconnected people and ideas that transcend borders and cultural boundaries," said Magid Abraham, president and chief executive of comScore.
According to the statistics, Google sites represented the most popular web property in the world last year, followed by those owned by Microsoft and Yahoo!.
Google, Yahoo! and Microsoft were also the most visited sites in the US in December, recent comScore figures showed.
