Consumer confidence in e-commerce websites is on the rise, an expert has said.
Web users feel more able to trust e-commerce sites when shopping online, which has helped the internet retail market to grow in recent times, according to Richard Dodd of the British Retail Consortium (BRC).
With more consumers able to access the web over a broadband connection, as well as the ability to easily make price comparisons on the internet, UK consumers feel more confident when using e-commerce sites, he said - with niche retailers well-placed to benefit from this.
According to recent BRC figures, online and other non-store spending on non-food items rose by 30 per cent in December compared with the previous year.
Meanwhile, all retail sales saw a year-on-year drop of 3.3 per cent.
"The increase in December was due to an increase in confidence in buying online and a trust that things would get delivered on time - and people felt happy about leaving Christmas shopping till later," Mr Dodd commented.
