Report: E-commerce platform market to grow

British firms will spend a collective £540 million on e-commerce platforms this year, Econsultancy has said in a new report.

Its latest E-commerce Platforms Buyers Guide suggested that spending will rise by 15 per cent this year - down slightly on last year's figure of 18 per cent.

Demand for standalone e-commerce platforms will be driven by continuing integration among multi-channel retail organisations, as well as greater use of data when optimising online activities, the report said.

Consumers are likely to continue spending online in spite of the downturn, while retailers will step up efforts to make their offerings unique compared with their competitors, predicted report authors Jake Hird and Richard Maven.

They said: "With retailers coming under pressure to maintain or increase conversion rates, the user experience offered by e-commerce sites has emerged as a key priority for many e-commerce firms."

Hitwise said last year that high street retailers are increasingly seeing success on the web, particularly companies such as Argos, Tesco and Marks & Spencer.ADNFCR-1093-ID-18980668-ADNFCR
