Paid search internet marketing campaigns are still very much focused on Google, a new report has suggested.

AdGooroo said in its latest report on the market that Google took business from nearly 81 per cent of search advertisers in the fourth quarter of 2008, compared with Live Search's 16.4 per cent and Yahoo!'s 19.4 per cent.

While Google and Live Search both managed to increase their market share quarter-on-quarter, Yahoo!'s dropped considerably over the final three months of 2008.

AdGooroo noted the recently revived speculation over whether Microsoft will make another attempt to buy Yahoo!, commenting: "The clock is ticking for Yahoo!.

"With rapid erosion in advertiser share, their market power is slipping away by the month."

The report also revealed that the number of ads Google displayed on the first page of its search results rose by 58 per cent in the fourth quarter.

A recent study by SearchIgnite suggested that US marketers spent 12 per cent more on pay-per-click internet marketing in the final three months of 2008 compared with the previous year.ADNFCR-1093-ID-18970974-ADNFCR
