The next 12 months will see major developments within both the social networking and search engine sectors of the internet, according to one online marketer.
Keith Hunt of Results International told Brand Republic that Facebook will likely expand beyond its current medium into television, while natural search will dominate search engine marketing.
In addition, he stated that search engines will also take on more of a rich and famous slant during 2009.
"Facebook will launch its own TV channel," he projected. "We will also see the birth of celebrity-led search engines and natural search specialists will continue to thrive at the expense of weaker, less sophisticated players."
Meanwhile, Peter Markey of More Than told the publication that this year will see firms put added emphasis on retaining customers as they look to ensure that they do not lose consumers in light of the credit crunch.
Research by the European Interactive Advertising Association published in September revealed that the majority of advertisers expect to spend more online in 2009.
