Adobe Systems and Intel have announced a partnership to develop a version of Flash for TV services.

The technology will be incorporated into the Intel Media Processor CE 3100 platform and will offer a richer experience for those viewing web-based video via Intel-based cable set-top boxes, Blu-ray players, digital TVs and retail-connected AV devices, according to the two companies.

Both Flash Player and Flash Lite will be optimised for the CE 3100, with the first device containing the new technology to be shipped by the middle of 2009.

William Leszinske Jr, general manager of Intel's Digital Home Group, said the new Flash technology will offer "a rich, yet relevant internet experience on the TV that will provide consumers with access to a growing number of Flash-based applications that will ultimately be enjoyed across a number of screens seamlessly, from the laptop to a MID and now the TV".

In August, Intel and Yahoo! revealed details of their forthcoming Widget Channel, a web app framework allowing consumers to use certain online services while watching TV.ADNFCR-1093-ID-18956274-ADNFCR
