Small businesses could see significant search engine optimisation (SEO) benefits by deploying social media internet marketing campaigns, it has been suggested.
Jason Billingsley of Elastic Path Software recently told the Financial Post that his company implemented a social media campaign incorporating videos that were posted on YouTube and in blog posts.
It upped the frequency of blog posts by bringing in another pair of hands to write content and used web analytics tools to study website visitation numbers.
Blog subscriber numbers rose from 100 to 2,000 in the space of seven months, while Elastic Path benefited from higher search engine visibility.
"The blog got more popular in the search engines, which bought in more traffic and more people saw the videos, which generated more links, which generated higher rankings in the search engines and the cycle continued," Mr Billingsley commented.
According to Mark Jackson of Search Engine Watch, businesses looking to take advantage of social marketing should ensure they reserve their company name for member profiles on each of the major networks and link to the firm's site in these profiles.
