UK traffic to e-commerce voucher and price comparison websites is on the rise, according to Hitwise.

New figures from the company showed that visits to sites in its rewards and directories category saw a one per cent increase last week.

Traffic to voucher sites in particular rose by 5.1 per cent, while hits for one price comparison website, Foundem, surged due to being featured on Five's Gadget Show.

In a blog post, Hitwise research director Robin Goad commented: "Searches for 'foundem' also shot up thanks to the publicity: it was the fastest moving search term in the UK last week, while 'the gadget show' ranked fourth."

Hitwise also revealed that traffic to grocery and alcohol, music and video and games websites peaked on December 8th, suggesting that consumers are shopping for more expensive items online first before considering cheaper products like food and CDs.

Amazon UK, Argos and Play.com are currently at the top of the IMRG-Hitwise Hot Shops List. ADNFCR-1093-ID-18932548-ADNFCR
