E-commerce websites can cut down on instances where shoppers abandon their online baskets before making a purchase by following usability guidelines as closely as possible.

This is according to the findings of a recent study by GSI Commerce, which commissioned YouGov to poll thousands of British adults on how they shop online.

The research revealed that three-quarters of those who had abandoned their shopping baskets did so as a result of poor website usability.

Complicated websites and lengthy registration and payment processes were the main reasons cited for this.

"A website is the main point of interaction between the retailer and the customers. Just as in a bricks-and-mortar store, retailers need to make sure that the steps to purchase are as simple and quick as possible," stated president of international for GSI Commerce Steve Davis.

According to recent research by IMRG, home delivery services from online retailers are steadily improving.ADNFCR-1093-ID-18932545-ADNFCR
