A speed test run by technology site ExtremeTech has ranked Google Chrome as the fastest browser on the market.

In the experiment, ExtremeTech tested Chrome, Internet Explorer 7 (IE7), Safari, Firefox and Opera on their ability to deal with content-rich websites, Flash, JavaScript and the Acid3 test, among other factors.

The tests were conducted across a number of different computers and ensured all browsers were tested under the same conditions.

After adding up the scores from each round of testing, ExtremeTech deemed Chrome to be the fastest - despite the browser only being launched just under three months ago.

Firefox and Opera rounded off the rest of the top three, with IE7 and Safari failing to rank, web design executives may be interested to read.

"Take a close look at your browser usage. Are you still using the default browser that came with your system? You may want to re-examine that," John Brandon of ExtremeTech said.

"The end result may be a much more pleasant and productive web experience."

Google may look to bundle Chrome with new PCs under agreements with OEMs, Sundar Pichai of Google recently said in an interview with the Times.ADNFCR-1093-ID-18899800-ADNFCR
