Web 2.0 seen as key to customer engagement

Web 2.0

27 November 2008

Web 2.0 is viewed as one of the most important internet marketing areas for businesses to invest in when it comes to customer engagement, according to a new study.

E-consultancy polled some 1,300 businesses in conjunction with cScape and found that 41 per cent intended to spend more on Web 2.0 technologies in 2009 to boost customer engagement.

About six in ten said they were looking to increase expenditure on email newsletters for this purposes, with other key areas identified by respondents included user-generated content, blogging and creating a brand presence on social networks.

Linus Gregoriadis of E-consultancy commented: "It is clear that organisations are now setting aside budget for Web 2.0-type activities because they have garnered tangible benefits rather than because they simply want to be on the cutting edge for the sake of it."

Global usage of social networking websites soared by 25 per cent in the 12 months to June, according to figures from comScore.ADNFCR-1093-ID-18899795-ADNFCR
