Google grabs more US search market share in October

Google expanded its share of US searches to 61.2 per cent in October, according to new figures.
Released by Nielsen Online, the statistics revealed that Google accounted for about 4.7 billion queries last month, up 8.1 per cent compared with last year.
Google was the only search engine in the top three to increase its market share, with both Yahoo! and Microsoft experiencing double-digit falls.
Yahoo! saw its share drop by 12 per cent, while Microsoft's Live Search came third after its proportion of all queries fell by 19 per cent.
AOL, Ask.com, My Web Search and Comcast search were among the other search engines listed in Nielsen Online's top ten.
Meanwhile, separate figures from comScore for October also confirmed that Google accounted for more search queries during the month compared with 2007.
It said that in terms of core searches, Google was responsible for 63.1 per cent of the market last month, up from 58.5 per cent in October 2007.
