British consumers expect to spend a bigger portion of their Christmas shopping budgets on the web than other Europeans, according to a new study.
A poll by price comparison website Twenga suggested that Britons will spend approximately 40 per cent of their festive funds on online shopping, compared with 27 per cent for all Europeans overall.
Each UK consumer is expected to have an average budget of £356, while Europeans will be able to spend some £244 each, according to the survey.
Meanwhile, Britons will take to the web more in order to compare prices and conduct product research, Twenga said.
"In this time of financial crisis, consumers are turning to the internet and price comparison sites like Twenga in order to regulate their spending without cutting down on Christmas presents and festive celebrations," stated Bastien Duclaux, director-general of Twenga.
A 14.8 per cent year-on-year increase in online spending was recorded by the IMRG Capgemini e-Retail Sales Index for September.
