British businesses are becoming more attuned to how they can use the internet to their advantage, it has been suggested.
According to recent comments from New Media Age editor-in-chief Michael Nutley, spending on internet marketing is expected to increase significantly as more organisations wake up to the advantages posed by the medium.
He offered the example of the UK property sector, which is now one of the five biggest-spending industries when it comes to online marketing.
"When you look at the property sector, it's struggling and they're moving their money to online marketing because that's going to get them results," Mr Nutley said.
He also claimed that there is still a rift between the amount of money spent on online advertising and how much consumers use the web for a variety of purposes.
UK businesses spent £1.7 billion on online marketing in the first half of 2008, according to a report published last month by the Internet Advertising Bureau.
