Savvy small businesses can boost their market standing with a strong online presence, Tink Taylor has suggested.
The business development director of dotMailer stated that an online marketing scheme can allow smaller firms to "punch above their weight".
Furthermore, he added that businesses can use emerging technologies, such as social media, to develop market share and increase the profile of their brand in a way that is not possible offline.
"Viral marketing tactics, such as forward-to-a-friend and adding content to social networking links in emails, allow businesses to use their captive audiences to target new, like-minded recipients," he concluded.
During the first half of 2008, paid-for search listings represent the largest single advertising format, with a total of £981 million spent on these types of ads between January and June, according to a report from the Internet Advertising Bureau.
The study also found that the spend on internet advertising increased by 21 per cent year-on-year.
