Twine aims to link users via interests
Web 2.0
21 October 2008
A social networking website that focuses on creating links between users based on their interests has launched to the public.
Twine collected some 50,000 users when it was in private beta and aims to sign up more to its services.
The website offers friend and product recommendations by analysing users' interests with semantic web technology.
Users can also set up mini websites focused on a particular interest and populate these with blogs, videos, bookmarks imported from Digg and Delicious, images and more.
"Twine represents an entirely new and smarter way for consumers to network around the things that matter most to them - their interests," said Nova Spivack, chief executive and founder of Radar Networks, which launched the site.
A number of other companies are also looking at using semantic technology to make their services more relevant to users, most notably search engines such as Microsoft's Live Search and Ask.com.
