Larger ads for YouTube homepage on the way?

YouTube may be set to see a larger portion of its front page given over to display ads, it has emerged.
Sources within the ad sector told the Silicon Alley Insider (SAI) blog that an agreement is in place to allow advertisers to place banner ads spanning the width of the YouTube homepage, potentially costing about $200,000 (£109,000) a day.
The news comes in the wake of a number of reports suggesting that Google is keen to make more money from YouTube - it recently started testing a number of new ad types attached to video content.
SAI's Michael Learmonth remarked: "The YouTube homepage has until now had pretty minimal advertising, just the window in the upper right corner of the site. But it should be the easiest part of the site to sell."
The Google homepage will remain ad-free because users do not want to see ads there, according to comments made by Google chief executive Eric Schmidt on CNBC's Mad Money programme earlier this month.
