'Improve the user experience with simple rules'

Some companies spend significant amounts of money creating the flashiest websites possible, but to truly appeal to web users it is best to stick to a few simple guidelines, according to one expert.
Internet users are more likely to stay around on websites that do not use splash pages, high numbers of banner ads and audio, Chris Curtis of the Northwest Voice asserted.
Furthermore, providing a simple way of getting around the website can also avoid users getting frustrated with the site, he said.
"When visitors are deeply engrossed in browsing your site, you will want to make sure they know which part of the site they are in at that moment ... Don't confuse your visitors because confusion means 'abandon ship'," Mr Curtis commented.
Research carried out by SDL Tridion earlier this year found that internet users most hate website features such as pop-up ads and lengthy intros.
