Computer manufacturer, Dell, has been found guilty of fraud by a court in the US, it has been reported.

The Albany County Supreme Court also decided it was responsible for false advertising, deceptive business practices and abusive debt collecting.

"We don't agree with this decision and will be defending our position vigorously," the company said.

"We are confident that when the proceedings are finally completed the court will determine that only a relatively small number of customers have been affected."

The IT firm was judged to have denied customers of support for goods that were still within warranty.

The court is yet to decide on the amount Dell will have to repay its customers after it advertised "no interest" and "no payment" deals but later levied charges.

Estimated figures released by analyst, Gartner, showed Dell dominates UK PC sales with a 24.6 per cent market share.
