Companies need to invest more money in experts that help them understand web analysis results, research has claimed.
A study conducted by E-consultancy polled hundreds of firms and reported they spent almost half of their web analytics budget on technology, but only 18 per cent on consulting and services.
"There is a massive disconnect between the analytics market and what business needs," said Andrew Hood, managing director of co-authors, Lynchpin.
"It is vital that the analytics sector addresses this issue and provides the business consultancy and online strategy needed to unlock the potential of analytics software."
The study found only 18 per cent of firms have an internal strategy to link collection, analysis and business objectives – E-consultancy claimed this was probably because organisations "think that the technology package takes care of everything".
Internet analyst Netcraft's April web server survey reported there were more than 165 million sites online, an increase of 3.1 million since March.
