BBC News: New and improved
Web Design
01 April 2008
The BBC News site has gone live after a redesign.
Its pages now feature more video content in embedded Flash players, improved links, wider pages and a brand new masthead.
"It's not a fundamental redesign of everything - many of the basics stay the same because we know they work," said editor, Steve Herman writing on his company blog.
The makeover is not yet finished and the channel has further improvements planned as part of an overhaul of bbc.co.uk.
Pete Clifton, the head of editorial development for multi-media journalism, said: "This is the start of a rolling programme to refresh our sites and introduce exciting new designs and features across our services."
The improvements are part of BBC journalism's Creative Future plans, which hope to bring the channel to a wider audience.
The broadcaster may have to share some of its licence fee revenue with its competitors, as part of a proposed revamp of public service broadcasting.
