Ministers want to make better use of the internet to gather tips on how they can govern more effectively, the Financial Times has reported.
Tom Watson, Cabinet Office minister for transformational government, told the FT he had established the taskforce to see how "we can make our own decisions quicker and better".
He said the internet could be used to give and receive advice, adding: "If you look at NetMums [a parenting site], there are 101 good ideas that government could scoop up."
The task force will run from the Cabinet Office with a brief to make all departments use electronic media better.
It will be chaired by Richard Allen, former MP and current head of European government affairs at computer company, Cisco Systems.
The internet is a two-way medium that allows for interaction. Most information providers now offer feedback or blog sections on which readers can post their comments.
