Workers in the US are increasingly loosing their jobs for spending time online, a new management study has found.
The American Management Association and the ePolicy Institute have revealed that a quarter of managers have fired staff for wasting time online or using work email.
"Employers need to do more than hand over a written policy," said, Manny Avramidis, senior vice president of global human resources.
"Most employees receive policies regarding use of office business tools and privacy issues on the first day of employment, but too often they don’t read them."
The study also revealed that employers have installed software that monitors user's' keystrokes and web activity.
Despite this, companies are increasingly looking to the internet to help improve their websites and internal communications.
Social networking applications have been applied to corporate and personal pages and have brought a 'live' feel to the latest sites.
