Security specialists from Google have tracked the mergence of malware in online advertising.
Security advisor, Neil Provos has published new research on his official weblog and explained the company had seen a rise in the problem over the last year and half.
"During that time we have investigated billions of URLs and found more than three million unique URLs on over 180,000 web sites automatically installing malware," he revealed.
The research explained that some older servers were cause for concern and any site is only as secure as its weakest part.
He revealed on the blog: "In our analysis, we found that on average two per cent of malicious websites were delivering malware via advertising."
Most security threats can be countered by regular updates of antivirus software and the installation of firewall barriers.
